Course overview

After much parliamentary wrangling, the landmark Employment Rights Bill has now received royal assent and become law. The Employment Rights Act 2025 is the biggest overhaul of workers’ rights in Britain in a generation, so it is crucial that employers know exactly how they will be impacted. The Act includes earlier protection against unfair dismissal, wider eligibility for sick pay, an upgrade of union powers and limitations on using zero-hours contracts.

This two-hour online session provides a comprehensive overview of the Act and what it means for you. It explores each change, discussing their practical implications and the steps employers need to take to prepare. You will also gain clarity on when each change is expected to take effect and the various consultations that will still shape the final details.

The course will answer the following questions...

  • What is in the Employment Rights Act?
  • What changes will organisations need to make to policies and processes?
  • When will the changes be introduced?
  • What do organisations need to do to prepare?

What will be covered?

  • Right to claim unfair dismissal after 6 months' service - and how to prepare for this major change
  • Restrictions on ‘fire and rehire’ - limiting the use of contract changes through dismissal and re-engagement
  • Reform of collective redundancy rules - including new obligations for consultation
  • New duties to prevent workplace harassment - clearer employer responsibilities and stronger enforcement
  • Extension of family-friendly rights - more protection for new mothers and extending parental and paternity leave
